To be honest, I'm very proud of this. That is me, but this time I didnt resort to making myself skinnier than I really am. And I acutally got my face somewhat right! I never do that when I draw myself (if you havent noticed by my other self portraits).
This was completely sketched in photoshop, and the outfit came from memory. I had it in my head this dress thing and I wanted to get it out. Sorry if it's already been done. I'm not stealing anyone's artwork (I'm getting blamed for that for some reason...).
I've decided to do a full body to get the feet in.
people at school. I'm just not as artistically cultured as most people here, so when they accuse me of stealing I have no clue what they are referencing. It's been anywhere from style to subject, but I have to constantly remind people that there is no such thing as original, and all I do is try to do my own thing. I may have seen whatever it is they are talking about and deep in the back of my brain it came out subconsciously and that's what inspired me. But all in all, if they're going to blame me for stealing than everyone has stolen because there is no such thing as originality anymore.
That's such an awesome design for a dress. It has this dual high fantasy-slash-sci-fi look to it, which I think is unique.
And yeah, it is annoying when people go all "You're copying [insert random artist here]!" on you. When I was in high school, some viewers of my sketchbook were absolutely convinced that I'd copied my characters from Digimon.
Besides, I don't think artists can legally copyright *style,* so I don't see the point in the whining over it. How many of us actually had a fully developed style when we started drawing? None! I know that I copied artists that I respected; some artists are still on their way to developing their own style, so naturally their work is going to look like the work of whoever inspired them. My style is beginning to become distinct, but I think some of my influences still show clearly.
I don't know, since the two are such different genres. I read somewhere that the definition of science fiction is "any story that speculates on established scientific fact/reasonable possibilities," whereas pretty much anything goes in fantasy. I think the closest anyone could come is the science fantasy genre, which is what works like Star Wars would be, since the science isn't the purpose of the story. But genres can be so complicated...

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.

BTW, anyone who suggests that this is stealing deserves an imaginary slap in the face.

has there been anyone out there who has successfully married fantasy and sci-fi? (cause I'd totally like to look them up)
